FISHERMEN'S PROTECTIVE UNION

Established 1908, by William F. Coaker, the Fishermen's Protective Union (FPU) was a Newfoundland workers' cooperative movement and political party. With a rallying cry of "To Each His Own", the FPU fought to achieve reforms in Newfoundland society to attain an equitable distribution of wealth across the fishing industry. It was the first organization to mobilize fishermen to challenge the established order, all in a effort to benefit Newfoundland fishermen, their families and society as a whole.
